Century United Boys Teams make HUGE statement at the 2013 Jefferson Cup

Five Century United Boys teams (U12s, 13s, 14s, 15s and 16s) participated in the 2013 Jefferson Cup this past weekend in Richmond, Virginia.  Competing against many United States Development Academy clubs, the Century boys proved that not only can they compete with these teams, but can succeed while demonstrating a great brand of soccer.  When the tournament ended, this Century United group walked away with two team championships, one team finalist, one semi finalist and an undefeated showcase participant.

The U13 Boys (9900 Elite) and the U14 Boys (North Predators) swept through their bracket play undefeated, beating teams from USDA clubs CASL and Empire Revolution.  The U13 Boys jumped out to an early 2-0 lead in their final against a strong USDA pre-academy team from Virginia Rush and held on for a convincing 3-1 victory in the championship.  The U14 Boys played a talented team from Florida (FC America Boys) and fought hard throughout the game to prevail by the score of 2-1 to secure the championship.

The U12 Boys Elite team went 2-0-1 in bracket play highlighted by a 4-2 victory over a USDA pre-academy team from the Baltimore Bays.  In the semi-final match, the U12 boys tied a strong team from South Carolina United 2-2 to finish a very successful weekend for the team.  It was the team’s first invite to the Jefferson Cup and with a strong showing by this talented group - great things lay ahead.

The U16 Boys team entered the weekend in the showcase event as one of the top 16 teams placed into the competition.  They opened up with Region 1 North East League Runner Up - East Meadow Aresnal (NY) on Friday.  Playing from a 1-0 deficit, the boys battled back to take a 2-1 lead only to concede the tying goal late in the contest.  In their second game, billed by the Jefferson Cup as "the match of the day in U16s" the boys battled to a 0-0 tie after a highly contested match.  In the final game of the event, the U16s played a team from USDA club CASL and demonstrated a beautiful brand of possession oriented soccer only to end in a 1-1 tie.  Overall, the team played a great brand of soccer and proved why they are considered one of the best teams in the region.

Congratulations to all our boys players and coaches!!!
