Century Girls Red 2014 Capture USYS PA West Presidents Cup Title

The Century Girls Red 2014 team, coached by Jen Luciew, made history this past weekend by winning the USYS PA West Presidents Cup, earning the right to represent Pennsylvania West at the Regional Championships this summer.

The girls opened the weekend with a tense 0–0 draw against FC814, where both teams battled hard but couldn’t find the back of the net. In fact, every team in the bracket opened with a 0–0 result, setting up a dramatic path to the finals where every goal would matter.

In their second match against Beadling South, the team struck first just before halftime on a fantastic left-footed finish from Tori Tustin. Beadling equalized early in the second half, but Lia Filardi, scoring her first goal as a Century player, delivered the game-winner to secure a 2–1 victory.

The third match was a huge test against Beadling SCS, a team that had beaten Century twice during the fall season. The girls came in determined and disciplined. Despite Beadling controlling much of the first half, goalkeeper Laila Topka made a game-changing save on a free kick that shifted momentum. With about 15 minutes left, Century earned a penalty kick, and Ainsley Montgomery buried it to secure a 1–0 win and a trip to the final.

The final against Victory SC was played under truly wild conditions, hail at kickoff, followed by heavy rain and strong winds. Despite the weather, Century came out composed and confident. Prasha Ojha opened the scoring early, finishing off a beautiful assist from Charlotte Luciew. Victory tied the game early in the second half, but with just five minutes remaining, Tori Tustin stepped up again, blasting home a free kick from 20 yards out to seal the 2–1 victory and the Presidents Cup Championship.

Coach Luciew and her staff came into the final prepared. “We knew Victory had a strong team and a very good goalkeeper,” said Luciew. “They like to play a dump-and-chase style, so I stressed the importance of not falling into that type of game. We’re at our best when we settle the ball, find feet, and release into open space.”

When the final whistle blew, emotions ran high. “The girls were all very excited—but also soaking wet and freezing!” laughed Luciew. “We gathered under shelter to hand out medals, and when I told them we’d be going to Regionals to represent PA West, they all started screaming and hugging. It was such a special moment.”

Beyond the win, Luciew emphasized what the performance represents for the group’s development. “This win shows what this team can accomplish when they’re focused and working hard. It was great to see them apply things from training into real game situations and adjust to different formations so well. Their soccer IQ—movement off the ball, anticipation, and positional awareness—has really grown.”

The focus now shifts to winter training and spring play, as the team continues to prepare for Regionals. “We’ll use this momentum to stay motivated and keep improving,” Luciew said. “We were the hardest-working team in every game, and that’s what made the difference. Now it’s about keeping that standard—technical sharpness, team defending, and finishing will be big focuses this winter. We’re not satisfied—we want to get even better heading into spring and Regionals.”
